My name is Joe Sawicki, and I live in Portland Oregon, and this is my first blog.

My five year old was laying down in the office waiting for me to finish getting a picture ready for printing so we could go up to his room and play. He’d been waiting patiently, when he said, “Daddy, you really like photography.” “Yes I do,” I responded. His one word response, “why?”

Excellent question. It is not my profession, I have an EE degree, used to design chips for a living and now work as an exec at a software company serving design engineers.

I became interested in photography after college, but ultimately because frustrated with my inability to truely control the process without dealing with the issue of putting  a darkroom into the rentals I was in the habit of moving from every year or so.

I bought my first digital camera when the D60 came out, and combined with Photoshop and an Epson 2200, I was absolutely in love. I’ve been through many cameras, versions of photoshop and one other printer since then, but what has remained consistent is the joy I get from being able to capture an image on paper, hold it in my hand, and know that I did that.
